This past weekend the heat got “switched off” here in the Phoenix area, and everyone left their swimming pools and houses, hopped on their bikes, played at the parks, walked their dogs, ate their meals outside, and exclaimed in exuberant voices, “This is why we live here!”
Dave and I enjoyed our morning beverages (tea for me, iced coffee for him) and quiet time on the patio, while Snickers romped around chasing a wiffle ball. I wondered whether he was thinking, “Hey, it feels so good out here!”. He also got a turkey meatball, so it was an all-around good weekend for him.
The talented Cody Carnes lead worship at our weekend church services, which was amazing (“The Cross Has the Final Word” is a favorite worship song around Casa Young)! His equally talented and beautiful wife, Kari Jobe was there with their little guy, Canyon. Though Cody and Kari are well known by some at Gateway Scottsdale (Cody helped plant our church 5 years ago), we had never met them. After church, the girls and I got to chat with Kari, and she was just as sweet as we imagined she would be, greeting us as if she had known us forever and hugging our necks. God displays so much of His beauty and heart through Kari, and I told her that she had unknowingly lead our family in worship more times than I could count. If you haven’t heard Kari’s latest release “The Garden”, you should! My favorite song (so far) is “Fall Afresh”. Check out links to both Cody and Kari’s sites at the bottom of this post.
It was my turn to choose our Saturday night dinner spot, and the gorgeous evening called for sitting outside at Kierland Commons, enjoying burgers and fries at Shake Shack. Yum! Sunday we hopped on our bikes and reacquainted ourselves with our neighborhood trail.
We do good work, and we work hard throughout the week, so we thank God for time to recharge on the weekend!
Do not become weary in well doing, for at the proper time, you will reap a harvest, if you do not give up. Galatians 6:9
